Rubber Dollar Review

Have you ever liked something so much that you didn't want to tell anyone about it in fear that it might get too popular? I actually considered that today before writing this post about yet another GREAT website similar to Groupon or Living Social. By the way, did you get in on the Amazon gift card deal that Living Social was running the other day? I sure did and I think I'm gonna buy a movie :) But I digress...

Rubber Dollar is a discount gift certificate website with some distinct differences from other sites in the way it's run. Right now, there are 85 area restaurants that participate and offer discounted gift certificates. For example, Zio's Italian Restaurant has a $15 gift certificate for $7! And what's different with Rubber Dollar is that it's not a one day event. Every month, a certain amount of certificates are released and are available till they run out. The most popular ones seem to run out with a week or two but that's still longer than you get with Groupon! It's similar to Restaurant.com in the manner that they're available for a longer time but so far, Rubber Dollar doesn't have all the stipulations that Restaurant.com has (i.e. having to spend more money above the amount of the certificate). If you want to spend only the $15 at Zios, you most certainly can! And it's not just restaurants! There are salons, bed and breakfasts, and local attractions as well. They even have 4-packs of tickets to Kimball's Cinema! I may get one of the Cog Railway certificates once spring arrives. We've never been! I bought a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory gift certificate ($25 worth of product for $10! That's a better discount than Groupon was running yesterday!) at Christmastime for some gifts.

There's also traditional coupons on the website as well for alot of those same businesses. So let's say you wanted to buy a gift certificate to the Balanced Rock Cafe in Garden of the Gods. If the gift certificate offer was gone for the month ($5 for $20 worth of food), you could print a $5 off coupon instead. Not as great a deal but if you just HAD to go right then, it's better than nothing!

They also have a "Daily Indulgence" which is identically run the same way as Groupon or Living Social. A high discount to some area business but only available for the one day. My mom just bought yesterday's which was a house cleaning for $25. She so wanted that!

One drawback to the site though is that so far, it's only available here in Colorado Springs. There are a few Pueblo area restaurants as well but that's it. Maybe someday as they grow, they'll start offering more cities. But for right now, Colorado Springs has lucked out. So check it out HERE! It's just another great way to save some money.
